My love affair with restoration and old buildings began in the late 90s when we decided to leave London, where we ran a small property maintenance company and move to a victorian house on the Kent coast.
The inbuilt wardrobes were original and I fell for them instantly. When we moved in I quickly decided I wanted to build similar furniture throughout the house, including a full hand built kitchen. After a great deal of studying books and some trial and error I found I was starting to gain the skill set and the eye for the detail it would take to craft cupboards that looked like they were original to the building.
From then the work and knowledge has grown with each project to include pretty much everything it takes to restore a full house, although, it would be foolish to say that one knows everything, old houses are great educators and tend to keep you feeling humbled, throughout their challenge.
This website is in part to document the journey of the business as it grows and faces new challenges. The restoration of original doors and hardware has become integral to some of our projects and we have now started to offer that service nationally though this sales platform.
I now live in beautiful County Durham in a small ex miners cottage not far from my workshop with my whippet dog Flo, you may find us knee high in rubble or saw dust in a period property near you if you live within the County, North Yorkshire and sometimes even as far as Cumbria.
